Dr Thakkar has a special interest in the assessment and management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She provides evidence-based, patient-centred care for children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD, supporting individuals and families through diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management.

Dr Thakkar holds Medicare-approved General Authority to prescribe ADHD medications. She is an authorised continuation prescriber of psychostimulant medications, including Ritalin, Concerta, dexamphetamine, and Vyvanse, for the management of ADHD in children aged over 6 years and in adults who are already under the care of a Specialist Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. A letter from the Specialist is necessary for co-management with Dr Thakkar.

She takes a holistic approach, combining medication management with education, behavioural strategies, and coordination with psychologists, Paediatricians, psychiatrists, schools, and allied health professionals. They are committed to helping patients better understand their strengths, improve daily functioning, and achieve their personal and academic goals.

Prescribing ADHD medication

Dr Swetha Thakkar can prescribe ADHD medications for patients who:

  • Are stable on their current medication
  • Are currently under the care of a Specialist Paediatrician or Psychiatrist
  • Have a co-management letter from their specialist
