Dr Swetha Thakkar graduated from Manipal University in 2006.

Since migrating to Australia in 2009, she has enjoyed working at Nepean Hospital. Along with her overseas experience she has worked in different subspecialties within Paediatrics
including NICU, Allergy, Behavioural Paediatrics and General Paediatrics for 5 years.

She has had the opportunity to work as an SRMO rotating through different specialities and learning about Indigenous health at Royal Darwin hospital. She worked in Newcastle GP practices for 3 years to complete her GP training.

She enjoys all aspects of general practice with particular interest in Women and Children’s health.

Outside of work, Swetha’s interests include spending time with her 2 children, reading novels and playing music.

Now prescribing ADHD medications for children and teens

Dr Swetha Thakkar is now able to prescribe certain ADHD medications for patients aged 6 to 17. To be eligible, the patient must:

  • Be aged between 6 and 17 years
  • Be stable on their current medication
  • Be taking one of the following medications: Ritalin, Vyvanse, or Concerta (if available)
  • Have a co-management letter from their specialist
